Wai-chung is a bus fan…
"What do you like most?” For many boys, their answers most probably are NDS, PSP, iPhone, iPad…but these are not Wai-chung’s cup of tea. What interests him most is bus. Wai-chung, an 11-year-old boy suffered from Cerebral Palsy, wished to have a MCW Metrobus model. Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong (MAWHK) therefore searched for the present and organised “a Bus Tour party” for him. Wai-chung, his family and a group of MAWHK volunteers then joined the party and hit the road together.
"Here we go!” Taking the Metropolis route on a Rickshaw Sightseeing bus, we enjoyed a 540-degree night panorama of city centres, including Central, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay. The bus tour was bursting with extraordinary sights and attractions, for example, the breathtaking view of Victoria Harbour, the spectacular scenes of the bustling areas. We decided to hide the MCW Metrobus model and give it to Wai-chung at the end of the bus tour. This made the little boy yearn for his secret gift all the time.
During the journey, we played games, such as charade, a word-guessing game. However, Wai-chung was not involved much. Instead, he was busied capturing the fascinating street view and glancing at every bus, every shop and every pedestrian. For him, everything sounded so interesting. At last, we reached the final destination. The most exciting moment for Wai-chung came: we presented the secret gift and a lovely balloon bus model which was twisted by one of the volunteers. Receiving his long-awaited MCW Metrobus model, Wai-chung was so excited that he held it very tightly. His smile was the sweetest that I have ever seen.
Happiness could just be that simple. When we all are chasing for the up-to-date gadgets, fashionable clothing and luxurious accessories, why don’t we learn from Wai-chung and treasure what we really love?
