Angel's Wish Concert

"To live out the colour of her life, even should she have but one day to live," said Angel.

"Angel's Wish Concert" was successfully held on 29 August by Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong at Chiang Chen Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Polytechnic University for a Wish Child, Angel. The girl performed 18 songs in this 2 hour show, including her favourite one - "Boundless Sea and Sky", one written by herself - "Fading Away"  and "Wish", which she performed with Prudence, another Wish Child. The last one is a newly-released song and is being used, to raise funds for young cancer patients in China who are receiving medical treatments. Angel's brilliant performance was highly praised by all in the audience at the theatre, including Angel's family members, friends, teachers, classmates, guests of the concert and volunteers. Almost 300 participants shouted and jumped for joy, and gave their encouragements to Angel who tried hard for her dream.

Angel is 18 years old and was diagnosed with stage III rhabdomyosarcoma. She started receiving different medical treatments in September 2008, and even now her condition is not very stable. These changes in health forced her to reconsider the meaning of life. Then, she received an inspiration. She reminded herself to face this problem with a positive attitude, and to do the things she likes whenever she has the chance. She wished to have her own concert because she would like to give herself, family and friends some unforgettable memories, as well as having a valuable birthday present for her 18th birthday. She also hoped to encourage not only herself but others to pursue their dreams regardless of their current situations. This also matches her belief: "To live out the colour of her life, even should she have but one day to live."

Professor Rosie Young, Chairperson of Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong was one of the concert attendees. She personally gave her encouragement to Angel before the show and applauded her talents in art and performing, as well as for her positive attitude to life. These thoughts helped bring a very special wish come true. Meanwhile, Professor Young also thanked American Express International, Inc. In fact, Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong can grant wishes to sick children, including Angel, through their generosity and kindness.

American Express representatives also turned out to show their support to Angel. American Express is very pleased to participate in fulfilling Angel's dream by sponsoring a mini-concert of her own. American Express appreciates Angel's positive attitude towards life. They hope that Angel can keep this positive attitude which helps add colour to her life. Granting Angel's wish is part of American Express' campaign partnering with Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong, and they look forward to helping more children who are fighting illness.

Angel acknowledged the support from her family and friends, especially her mother, who has taken care of her intensively in these past two years. She also thanked her friends for their input of time and ideas towards this concert and her wish. Also, the huge support from the band and the performance and production teams were brilliant and important to the concert. "Fading Away" was the finale to the show. Angel tried to tell all the people whom she loves and who love her about what came to her mind after she got sick two years ago. The song's name is also a gentle request from Angel - please forget my diagnosis gradually.

While Angel believed the end of the concert was after singing "Fading Away", we gave her a secret surprise! A big birthday cake made up of small cup-cakes came out, along with volunteers, to celebrate her 18th birthday. The audience inside the theatre sang a birthday song to her, to celebrate her sweet and memorable 18th birthday, and to congratulate her wish come true! We saw that a tear drop was going to come out from Angel's eyes... that's the power of a wish!
