A Fun Day at Ocean Park

 50 Wish Children and their parents had a special Mother’s Day celebration in Ocean Park on 8 May 2011.  

Early in the morning, shuttle buses brought Wish Children from different gathering points to Ocean Park and they entered the park excitedly. There they were greeted by Whiskers, the Ambassador of the Park. We took photos with Whiskers who sent us his warmest hugs and best wishes. For more surprises, Wish Children sent their moms carnations that represented their love on this special day. Moms held the flowers and their children’s hands tightly. This marked the beginning of a warm and joyful day. 

We took the spectacular Ocean Express to the Ocean Theatre together. The performance of dolphins and sea lions were simply amazing. Wish Children couldn’t help but cheer as the dolphins jumped and turned. Children then visited the pandas, the sea lions, the fish, and more fish.  The fish swam in lots; they swamjust by our sides. 

Ocean Park is a pleasant place to be with plenty of space to move around even for people in wheelchairs. We didn’t meet many difficulties, except once when we walked to the end of a winding path and hit the stairs. “Okay, let’s move back,” the children and I said to each other. Then, one of the moms demonstrated an extraordinary trick: she pulled out two chained wooden steps and placed them near the staircase. Shortly and steadily her child arrived with us. All other parents and volunteers there were astonished by this mom and her equipment. “It’s a simple tool that you could get from a shop; but it was my son who reminded me to take them.” she said causally. It’s a smart son with a smart and caring mom. And we volunteers wondered how much time and effort this boy used to learn to adapt, and how much time and effort this mom has spent taking care and stayingby his side. 

On this special day, Wish Children thanked their moms for always being there; and we thanked Wish Children for letting us be there on such a day and shared their joy.
