Mr. Eason Chan
A big fan of Mr. Eason Chan
Eighteen year-old Andy is a big fan of Mr. Eason Chan. Andy bought all his recent albums and has always been in his audience whenever Eason holds a concert. Even at the most recent concert of Eason's in which tickets were sold out within hours of the ticket release, Andy could still buy two tickets. He always could manage in his own way to buy Eason's concert tickets. However, since he has contracted blood cancer, getting a concert ticket may not be as easy as before. He will need to spend time on cancer treatment. The amount of his leisure time depends upon the treatment plan by the doctors.
Andy heard of Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong (MAWHK) during the time of the treatment. He decided to lodge a wish application to MAWHK. When our trained volunteers paid a home visit to Andy, he told us that his most favourite things are Eason and Japanese food. His wish was to have a delicious Japanese meal with Eason. However, the sashimi and the raw food in Japanese meals are not recommended for cancer patients, especially those who are doing chemotherapy. We finally decided to arrange a special meeting for Andy; to let him chat with Eason face to face!
First one to listen to Eason's latest album
Our dedicated partner, The Peninsula Hong Kong (Peninsula) sponsored this meeting and arranged a very special place for the meeting. The meeting was held in The China Clipper (the helicopter waiting room of the Peninsula) on the top floor of the tower. Other people do not have much chance to visit the waiting room as it is only open for tourists who take a helicopter to travel to/from the hotel. On that day, The China Clipper was turned into a private restaurant where Andy, his family, and Eason were the only guests! Andy and his family were amazed by the breathtaking views over Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and the spectacular coastline. They all took out their cameras to snap the beautiful scene over Hong Kong's metropolis. In addition, the various helicopter components inside the waiting room also caught their attention. We could see the cameras flash around the room! However, the focus of the meeting was still to meet with Eason...
Andy brought all his collections for Eason to sign. When he was placing his items one by one on the table, Eason turned up and welcomed Andy and his family with a cheerful greeting! Andy brought a birthday card to Eason. It was to wish Eason a happy birthday on 27th July. Eason read it thoroughly and thanked him for the wishes. Then Eason autographed Andy's collections, including CDs, posters and concert souvenirs. In the meantime, Eason told Andy anecdotes about his music recording and preparation of concert. Recently, Eason was recording his new album at his studio. He brought his recorder and played his new song to Andy. Andy became the first lucky person to listen to Eason's new song!
Dining with Eason with a fantastic view of Victoria Harbour
The second half of the meeting was to dine with Eason. It was Andy's biggest wish. The hotel tailored its meal to Andy's needs. Having this meal with his beloved family and his idol, together with the fantastic environment, was an unforgettable experience to Andy. "I feel lucky to be part of Andy's wish. We should all treasure the moment sitting with family and having a meal together. I wholeheartedly hope Andy does not give up and always thinks positively to face the upcoming challenge. He will recover soon," said Eason. Eason also invited him to attend his concert in August. He hoped Andy will cheer him on the stage.
Four hours' get-together came to an end after taking a group photo. Eason gave everyone a big hug. Before Eason left, he encouraged Andy to keep fighting the illness by tapping him on his shoulder. Andy's father appreciated MAWHK for the well-organissed arrangement and the encouragement from Eason. He believes that Andy is getting stronger to face the illness.
Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong appreciates the help of Eason, Katie Chan Productions Co. Ltd., and the sponsorship from The Peninsula Hong Kong. With your support, Andy has had his wish come true.
