Recruitment of Overseas Volunteers "I wish I could go to"

"I wish I could go to Australia/Japan/United Kingdom/Spain!

These are neither my travel plans, nor yours, as they are the dreams of our Wish Children. There are different reasons and stories for different journeys, but all the children are anticipating a wonderful tour! However, we usually encounter difficulties in the course of preparing these trips, especially when the kids were wheelchair users or were unable to join a guided tour and had to be in a group of individual travelers. In these cases, their family members often lacked overseas travel experience and could not speak foreign languages. Therefore, the parents still felt anxious and helpless even though they received beforehand a very thoughtful and detailed travel plan prepared by Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong (MAWHK). Henceforth, our volunteers are going to play an extremely important role! Just as hearing a familiar voice in a strange place far away from home is like having a torch in the dark, we do really need YOU to help us!

If you or your relatives and friends are living overseas, and know both the local and/or Chinese languages (Cantonese or Mandarin), then perhaps you could help us arrange one or more of the following items:

-       Receive the Wish Children and their Families;

-       Accompany the Wish Families to visit local tourist attractions;

-       Become the temporary emergency contact person for the Wish Familiesin that local country;

-       Help in arranging different forms of wish journeys for MAWHK, such as buying tickets for concerts/sports events held in that local country, or helping topurchase souvenirs/toys that are available exclusively in that area.

If you are capable of helping in any of the above areas, then you are cordially invited to join us as volunteers of MAWHK to help making the wishes of sick children come true!

We are glad to have the fervent support of so many volunteers who have helped to enable a long list of wish journeys that have happened one after another. Volunteers played an indispensable role in the wish journey of Kei-yau to Paris (please refer to the October 2011 edition of “Feel the Magic” for details). Our volunteers also became important companions in Chris’ trip to Singapore (please refer to late February 2012 edition of “Feel The Magic” for details).

We are now putting forth a series of wish journeys with destinations such as London in the United Kingdom, Madrid in Spain, Osaka and Hokkaido in Japan, as well as some other countries/regions. As some of these parents will require getting support from the local volunteers, we sincerely look forward to receiving enthusiastic responses from you and your relatives or friends. If you have any queries, please call (852) 2579 2402 or send an email to info@makeawish.org.hk to contact us.

Note: The Wish Families do not have to be accommodated in the homes of volunteers and volunteers are not responsible for the expenses of the accommodations, mealsand transportation of the wish families.
