Pui-man said, 'I wish to sing!'
The 12 year-old Pui-man has a sweet and beautiful voice, likes to sing and aspires to formally learn singing techniques. She wishes to be able to put on a public performance one day. Pui-man had previously thought of paying a visit to Japan as her wish, but her passion for singing was so overwhelming that she eventually chose to learn singing.
Upon receipt of Pui-man's application, Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong sprung to action. Professionals at Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong hopes that besides letting Pui-man have a joyful experience, Pui-man can also formally learn from a vocal performer. The first task is to identify a suitable teacher for Pui-man. Utilizing the Foundation's network, we have finally come into contact with celebrated vocalist, Ms. Mak Kit-man. After learning about Pui-man's case, Ms. Mak was keen to immediately accept the task and was generous to offer Pui-man singing classes for free.
Pui-man was anxious to commence singing lessons after learning that she would be the famous Ms. Mak's apprentice. When our staff at Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong first escorted Pui-man to class, Pui-man was deeply interested in everything in the classroom and showed a serious attitude to learning, despite signs of slight nervousness.
Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong has also promised Pui-man to provide her with various opportunities to perform. Her debut show is scheduled to stage in the last week of September, at a major shopping complex in Mongkok. All Pui-man has to do is to choose her song and to practice for the upcoming performance, Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong caters for the rest. As support for Make-A-Wish's initiative, a department store has kindly offered to sponsor Pui-man's costume and make-up, enabling Pui-man to be a super star on stage.
For the debut performance on her 'Wish Stage', Pui-man chose a song by one of her favourite singers, Joey Yung. Through the song 'My Pride' and her sweet voice, Pui-man expressed her deepest gratitude to her mother and sister, for their unconditional and unceasing care and love. The performance touched not only Pui-man's family but the audience and shoppers who showed their encouragement through their cheering applause. This successful show has given Pui-man a tremendous boost in confidence and also a motivation for her to continue pursuing her passion in the future.
Pui-man has begun her lessons, and we look forward to her performance as her lessons bear fruit. Everyone around Pui-man is very supportive. Her sister has agreed to escort Pui-man to and from singing lessons, and her mum is very thankful for such a rare opportunity. She wishes that Pui-man take the lessons seriously and enjoy the process. She also advises Pui-man to develop both her academics and musical interests, in preparation for a bright life in the future.
